How to present a weather report on television…

2023-02-04
Producing accurate forecasts, being in capacity to generate early warning in a timely manner is crucial… but if you don’t get them to the public, if you don’t give them the visibility they deserve, efforts are vain. This is why the project carried out by MFI for INAMET pays special attention to the dissemination of met information towards end-users.

It is in this spirit that a training on how to present a weather report on television was organized beginning of February in MFI’s headquarters, in Toulouse for the staff of INAMET. It was animated by MFI in collaboration with their partner MetraWeather, specialized in weather presentation & broadcast solutions for television and social medias.

The 5-day training session gathered 2 Production Managers from INAMET and 3 presenters from different Angolan TV channels (TAP, TV ZIMBO, and TV GIRASSOL). The objective was to stimulate interactions between the 2 entities in order for INAMET’s staff to be able to produce sophisticated weather sequences and visualizations while meeting presenters’ needs for their TV shows. MetraWeather’s team also brought in former TV presenter from the BBC, Mrs. Kirsty McCabe, to share presentation technics and tips!

The first weather reports based on INAMET’s new production capacity should be available on Angolan TV channels before this summer. General public will then have access to attractive weather forecasts & bulletins, but also enlightening warning maps so crucial for the protection of populations against extreme meteorological phenomena. A great step forward on the path of resilience to climate change and its effects!
