OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF INAMET'S MODERNIZATION PROJECT

On March 22, 2019, in Luanda, the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology organized a seminar for the public launch of the INAMET modernization project. In front of an audience made up of representatives of the country's main ministries and other institutions, His Excellency Manuel Homem, Secretary of State for Information Technology, made a statement to welcome the project.

The General Director of INAMET, Mr. Domingos Nascimento, and Patrick Bénichou, President of Meteo France International then took the floor to present the ins and outs of the global Angolan meteorological strategic development plan. They focused on the specific objectives of INAMET modernization project, expected to bring better protection of population as well as efficient support to Angola’s main economic sectors such as Oil & Gas industry or Agriculture.

The 3-year project puts particular emphasis on 3 aspects: strengthening the national observation network, implementing a modern and integrated information system and upgrading INAMET staff’s skills. This ambitious project will also allow Angola to join the international movement of awareness regarding climate change and the crucial necessity for national met services to strengthen their capacities in order to better manage its devasting impacts.
